POHUTUKAWA TRIP TO THE MANUKAU SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA CONCERT

On Tuesday the 1st of April, the Pohutukawa  team went to watch the Manukau Symphony Orchestra at the Due Drops Centre. Beforehand, we had done some work on the different instruments and sections of an orchestra and it was so cool to see them all working together on stage!

Twice during the performance, they stopped and Suzy Cato read a story with the orchestra playing the background music! The first time, the saxophone was going to be the main instrument, so before the reading the conductor had it playing on its own. The story was ‘The Stolen Stars of Matariki.’

The second story was titled ‘The Emperor and the Nightingale’. The flute played the part of the nightingale and it was beautiful and sounded just like a bird! The orchestra also did a song with just the harp and double bass called ‘The Lake and the Swan’ where the harp was the lake and the double bass was the swan. It was awesome.

For the grand finale, the lights went out, disco lights came on and they started to play the Star Wars theme song!! They did it twice, because we begged for more! On the bus on our way back to school, we were talking about our favourite instruments and how amazing the show was! We loved it.

COUNTIES MANUKAU SUPERSMASH CRICKET SESSIONS

This week, our Year 1-4 students learned new cricket skills with the coaches from Counties Manukau Sport

With this programme, the tamariki developed a basic understanding of Cricket through fun activities.

CHANGES IN WEATHER

As the weather changes and mornings get colder, please make sure students wear their school jumpers, and that they are clearly labeled with their name. If, for any reason, a child is unable to wear the uniform, please send a note with them. Also, a reminder that hats are still part of the uniform until the end of this term.

FAREWELL ALVINA

We have said goodbye to one of our amazing school nurses, Alvina. She has been at RPS for three years working with Mana Kids. She has headed overseas to support her husband, who plays International Rugby for the Fijian Drua.

From all of us here at RPS, we thank you for your dedication and time spent with our tamariki, and we wish you all the best for the future.
