CONGRATULATIONS AMES RHODES!

Congratulations to Ames Rhodes who will be representing RPS and the Manurewa Schools at the Auckland RehuTai Speech Competition tonight at Remuera Intermediate. He will be presenting his speech about Kotahitanga against students from across the Auckland region. Kia Kaha Ames! We’re so proud of you!

TE WIKI O TE REO MĀORI & CULTURAL DRESS DAY

Thank you to all tamariki who came to kura in their traditional cultural dress last Taite/Rāpare. We had a great week learning more te reo and our history. The week culminated in our celebration assembly.

What an incredible first day at Sports Camp! Our students showcased their talents in Ki O
Rahi, Cross Country, Badminton, and Checkers.
Our tamariki displayed the true spirit of Randwick Park School by embodying our
core values. They demonstrated respect for their teammates and opponents, showed great
perseverance in muddy conditions, and maintained a strong sense of sportsmanship
throughout the day.

Yesterday was an outstanding
achievement for our badminton players who have embraced this sporting code.

ASSEMBLY CERTIFICATES

BALLET IN A BOX PERFORMANCE: Pohutukawa and Kowhai Team

Last week, our Kowhai and Pohutukawa Teams had the opportunity to see the Royal New Zealand Ballet company bring together a razzle-dazzle performance of Sacha Cotter and Josh Morgan’s magnificent Dazzlehands at the Due Drop Centre. This contemporary take on traditional ballet was an innovative and exciting way to explore the The Arts: Dance curriculum. 

The Cow says “moo”, the Chicken says “cluck” and the Pig says… “Dazzlehands!” As hard as the farmer tries, Pig won’t go “oink”. Reinforcing the message that it is always best to stay true to yourself no matter what others say. 

Our students enjoyed participating in a dance lesson at school prior to the show and were also able to ask the dancers questions in a Q&A session at the end of the performance. 

GYMNASTICS

We received funding from Manukau Counties Community Facilities Charitable Trust for a group
of students to attend Gymnastics at Counties Manukau Gymnastics. The gymnastic
programme is based on an approach that is fun, challenging and fundamental for a child’s
growth and development. Trained staff facilitate the gymnastics programme designed to meet

the needs of individual students.

This is an opportunity to enhance social and interpersonal skills through a structured

gymnastics programme.

TE HUI AKO TERM 3 PARTICIPATION RESULTS

Well RPS you have not let us down. 

93% participation and..13 classes achieving 100% participation or just one less. 

RPS we are doing great! Congratulations! Thank you for the support you continue to give your tamariki in relation to their learning. 

Last term we achieved 94% participation in our Te Hui Ako and this term, Term Three we nearly equalled this with 93%. Our teachers really enjoy the time discussing the progress your child is making and seeing how proud they are. We look forward to continuing to rise to our 100% participation challenge in 2025. Please remember you are welcome to make a time to meet with your child’s teacher at any stage. You don’t have to wait until scheduled times. If there is anything causing concern contact us immediately. Any matter that may be hindering learning needs to be addressed straight away. No issue is too small.

MID-YEAR OVERALL TEACHER JUDGEMENT (OTJ)

WRITING

At the start of this term, we looked at our mid-point data and using a variety of assessments and professional judgement teachers made an overall teacher judgement (OTJ) on how individuals are tracking towards our school-wide achievement targets.

Our end-of-year target for Writing is to have 70% or more of all students working At or Above the expected level for their age. There is an increase of 8.7% from the end of 2023.

The following is where we are placed at the mid-point.

ADVERTISEMENT FOR LEARNING ASSISTANT POSITION

Seeking a suitable applicant to support students (aged 5 to 13 years) who have a variety of neurodiverse conditions. You will work as part of a classroom team assisting the teacher with student learning and/or behaviour. 

Hours of work are Monday to Friday (term time only) 8.45 am to 2.45 pm. Positions will be paid as per the Support Staff in Schools Collective Agreement. 

Previous experience working with neurodiverse students or in a related field is an advantage but not a requirement. A full current driver’s licence will be beneficial.

Applicants are required to complete a Police Vetting application. Previous convictions do not necessarily prevent you from applying for this. The role will commence during Term 4 or by negotiation. 

Applicants must be either NZ citizens or have a valid NZ work visa.

DROPPING AND COLLECTING YOUR CHILDREN/TAMARIKI

When dropping your tamariki off in the morning please use our yellow coned drop-off area. This is for the safety of you and your tamariki. If you would like to walk your child/ren to class, please park on the road.

Our school gates are closed from 2 pm. Only parents/whānau who have a parking permit are permitted through the gates as we have limited parking spaces.

CYBERSAFETY – PROTECTING OUR TAMARIKI ONLINE

As parents/whānau, you do everything you can to keep your tamariki safe.
Being online is no different, but the strategies to keep our tamariki safe are. 
Here is this week’s Cyber Safety tip to ensure the online safety of our tamariki.

Teach your tamariki to keep their location private

Most apps, networks and devices have geo-tagging features which make your whereabouts public and can lead someone directly to you. These features need to be turned off for obvious privacy and safety reasons. Digital photos also contain metadata (information about the time, date and GPS coordinates) which may reveal more than you want to. Some social media platforms automatically hide or remove this data, but not all, so do your homework and know how much info you’re sharing.

Tickets are $5.00. In order for you to attend and be part of the celebration of the amazing talent within RPS and our Te Hui Ako, we are subsidising the cost of the tickets. Tickets will be $5.00 per person.
