94% participation! What a FANTASTIC result. Our best ever here at Randwick Park School. RPS whānau we are so excited and proud of this outcome.

This is the new standard as we strive to achieve our school wide goal of 100% participation. Nine of our classes achieved 100% and five only missed out on connecting with one aiga. Absolutely excellent. Thank you all for supporting us in making this happen.

RELATIONSHIP & SEXUALITY PARENT/WHĀNAU INFORMATION

Thank you to all aiga who were able to attend our hui earlier this term. The following is an outline of the learning that will be addressed at the different year levels.

Rimu, Totara and Kowhai Teams (Year 0 – 4)

27th to 31st May 

How am I the same? How am I different?

  • Describing similarities and differences to others.

Expressing my feelings 

  • Using “I” statements to express ideas and feelings.

My growing body and the things it can do 

  • Describing how their bodies change as they grow, such as getting taller 
  • Identify things that they can do now and set goals to work on

4th to 7th June

My body parts 

  • Identify and name body parts, including private body parts.
  • Discuss how we care for our bodies, including keeping clean 

Standing up for myself and others 

  • Recognise bullying behaviour and strategies to stand up for themselves and others.

  • Understand that their body is their own

  • Safe and unsafe touching and the difference

Area 1:  Establishing a positive learning environment – Te whakarite i tētahi ao ako huapai

Activity: Establishing safe ways to ask questions and inquire together 

  • Students will develop strategies for safely asking and answering questions about aspects of sexuality.

Area 2: Who am I? Ko wai au?

Activity: Recognising media influences on identity 

  • Students will explore messages communicated in the media and how these can influence our identity and self-worth.

Area 3: Relationships – Ngā whanaungatanga

Activity: Managing relationships 

  • Students will identify strategies for coping with changes in friendships.

Activity: Understanding different perspectives 

  • Students will develop awareness that the same situations can be perceived differently by different people.

Activity: Making decisions 

  • Students will identify the factors that influence decision-making.

 4th to 7th June

Area 4: Growing and changing – Te Tipu me te huri o te tangata 

Where appropriate, boys and girls will be taught the content separately.

Activity: Pubertal Change 

  • Students will identify the changes that occur during puberty and recognise that most of the changes happen to everybody. 

Activity: Looking after our bodies 

  • Students will explore strategies to look after their bodies before, during, and after puberty.

    Activity: Truths and myths about hygiene
  • Students will discuss useful strategies for managing change during and after puberty.
  • Students will develop some key statements that will reinforce learning about hygiene

Balancing rights and responsibilities 

  • explore how our rights and responsibilities increase as we get older
  • identify their current responsibilities and prepare for those they will have in the future

Understanding gender and stereotypes

  • identify gender stereotypes and their impact on people’s sense of identity
  • discuss strategies to challenge gender stereotypes that they can use
  • identify how social messages about gender can affect people’s experiences of    becoming an adult

Puberty session 1

 Pubertal Change

  • review and identify the changes that take place during puberty and recognise that most of them happen to everybody.

Puberty session 2

Managing Pubertal change 

  • explore how people experience pubertal change and identify and discuss practical  ways of managing changes and feelings
  • explore concepts about body image and how to foster positive body image.

10th to 14th June

The Human Reproductive System

Use the correct terms for the reproductive parts of their bodies and understand their functions.

Support & Assertiveness and making decisions 

  • develop and demonstrate assertiveness and decision-making skills.

Online Safety

Cyberbullying

  • identify and manage the impact of online bullying.
    If you have any questions about any of the Relationship and Sexuality programme we will be teaching across our kura please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher and/or the Team Leader.

TOI MAURI ORA, MAU RAKAU

A number of our tamariki have been given an opportunity to learn Mau Rakau. They look amazing when we see them practising. Here are some of the values and skills this programme works on instilling in our tamariki.

Objectives 
Mauri Tū. Participants will:
• Grow in confidence in Te Reo Māori (language of instruction & learning) me ōna tikanga (Māori values &
etiquette).
• Partake in physical activity and self-care to better their physical health and wellbeing.
• Improve listening, visual and kinaesthetic skills through interactive learning, tasks and games.
• Be competent enough to apply what they have learnt to help facilitate learning as tuakana to teina in the program
when necessary.
• Be capable of managing oneself.
• Develop leadership skills.

LEARNING ASSISTANT POSITION AVAILABLE AT
RANDWICK PARK SCHOOL
We are looking for someone to support students (aged 5 to 13 years) who have a variety of neurodiverse conditions. You will work as part of a classroom team assisting the teacher with student learning and/or behaviour.

Hours of work are Monday to Friday (term time only) 8.45 am to 2.45 pm. Positions will be paid as per the Support Staff in Schools Collective Agreement.

Previous experience working with neurodiverse students or in a related field is an advantage
along with a full current driver’s licence.

All applicants will need to complete a Police Vetting application. The role will commence during Term 2 or by negotiation.

All applicants must be NZ citizens or have a valid NZ work visa.

CHANGE OF CLOTHING FOR OUR JUNIOR TAMARIKI
If your child is in Year 0-4, please pack them a change of clothing. This is incase of accidents which can occur at their age.

SCHOOL HOURS
School starts at 8:40 am & finishes at 2:45 pm. If tamariki arrive after 8:40 am they are late and need to sign in at the back of our office with Miss Dot.

All students are to be off-site/off-school grounds by 3 pm unless they are attending training for a sport.

This is for safety reasons as we do not have supervision in case of an emergency, injury or incident.

OUR SCHOOL COUNSELLOR
Whaea Brenda Paschke is our school counsellor. She works four days a week. She can be contacted through our school office or by email counsellor3@randwickpark.school.nz

SCHOOL UNIFORM
As winter is upon us, we ask that students start wearing our winter uniform. It consists of our school pants, polo fleece, socks or stockings and school shoes (School shoes -black, white, or navy blue, or sports shoes (black, white, or navy blue).

If your child is wearing a piece of jewellery as part of their culture, please advise either their class teacher or our school office. Jewellery, nail polish, and jandals do not form part of our RPS uniform.
