Randwick Park School is proud of our Physical Education and Sports programmes. Our aim is to support all of our tamariki in developing their physical skills through a range of disciplines lead by a team of passionate and dedicated sports leaders and coaches.
Physical Education is taught from Years 1-8 and focuses on developing a range of physical and motor skills. We also foster resilience, co-operation, perseverance and sportsmanship throughout our programmes.
YEAR 5/6 SPORT
Our year 5 & 6 students have the opportunity to trial and be selected for teams to represent our school at the Manurewa Primary School Sports Association (MPSSA) Tournaments. There are 21 schools in our cluster. In 2024 we participate in the following tournaments: Swimming, Cricket, Rugby, Rugby league, Volleyball, Rippa Rugby, Netball, Football, Ki o Rahi, Basketball, Touch, Softball, Cross country and Athletics. We are now in our 3rd year of competing in the Counties Manukau Games (CM games), a 3 day tournament in Term 4 at Bruce Pulman Park. This year we are entering teams in netball, football and touch. All students have an hour per week dedicated to physical education where they learn new sports and develop skills, along with understanding the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship.
YEAR 7/8 SPORT
Our Year 7/8 students compete in a range of sports tournaments in the Central Counties (CCSA) cluster. This cluster includes all the full primary schools within our area. The winner of these tournaments (and depending on the sport, the second place getter) qualify for the Counties Zone finals, playing against Intermediates and Full Primaries from across our region. This year the following teams have qualified for the Counties Zone Finals – Girls’ Softball, Boys’ and Girls’ Tag, Boys’ and Girls’ Football, Boys’ and Girls’ Rugby and Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball. Our Girls’ Softball team took out the Counties Zone finals, qualifying for the Auckland Inter-Zone Championships where they placed third.Annually, some of our talented Year 7/8 tamariki represent Randwick Park at the AIMS Games in Tauranga. This gives them the opportunity to experience the challenge of a high level tournament against schools from across New Zealand. In 2024 we were represented by four teams – Girls’ Futsal, Boys’ Futsal, Netball and Boys’ Rugby Sevens. Our Girls’ Futsal team placed second (out of 22 teams) and our Girls’ Netball fourth (out of 140 teams). The aim of the AIMS tournament is to provide opportunities for students in their intermediate years to compete at an elite level, be active, celebrate fair play and enjoy success
