Ramadan started on Sunday March 2, and will last 29 or 30 days, depending on whether the moon’s crescent was visible the night before for Eid Al-Fitr.

KEY ASPECTS OF RAMADAN

  • Fasting: Muslims fast from dawn (Fajr) until sunset (Maghrib), refraining from food, drink, and other physical needs.
  • Suhoor & Iftar: Suhoor is the pre-dawn meal, and Iftar is the meal to break the fast at sunset.
  • Taraweeh Prayers: Special nightly prayers performed in mosques during Ramadan.
  • Laylat al-Qadr: The Night of Power, which falls in the last ten nights of Ramadan, is considered the most blessed night.
  • Charity & Good Deeds: Giving to those in need (Zakat & Sadaqah) is highly emphasized.

We look forward to seeing you, ready to start learning here at RPS.

Headlice

We are currently experiencing a breakout of headlice in our school.

We ask that you please check your children’s hair thoroughly and treat eggs/lice if present.

SPORTS GEAR DONATION

Last week, Takanini Gurdwara Sri Kalgidhar Sahib Temple made an incredible donation of sports gear to our kura. This includes volleyballs, soccer balls, hockey sticks, and sports socks – all of which will be put to great use by our tamariki.

A massive thank you to the Sikh community for their kindness and support. Your donation will help our students stay active and engaged, fostering teamwork and healthy lifestyles. Ngā mihi nui for your aroha and generosity!

PATKA- WHAT IS IT?

Patka is a Sikh headgear worn by young Sikh boys to cover a small topknot called joora.

In the Sikh religion, a Patka is used to keep a young boys long hair neat and tidy throughout the day.

For many Sikhs, long hair symbolizes their spirituality and connection to God. Sikhs do not cut their hair, regardless of gender. The turban, which holds the hair, is described by some Sikhs as their crown — and reflects their pride in their faith.
