Yesterday Room 32 celebrated the opening of the Tapa Mural they had been working on with Rowena Rooney of Blue Turtle Design. The students proudly showcased their amazing work to the Senior Leadership Team and the parents who attended. The designs on the wall reflect our school’s multicultural population, and each design is unique! We would like to thank Whaea Rowena for her incredible guidance and collaboration with our students.

End of year information on your son/daughter’s progress.
This term our kaiako/teachers have been undertaking assessments to inform the end of year comment about how your tamariki are doing.
This will be published on our School Management System HERO. Included in the summary of their progress will be a statement for Literacy and Mathematics. It will say how they are progressing, whether they are working above, at, below or well below the expected level for their year age.
Once you have had an opportunity to read through the comment and discuss this with your tane/wahine you are very welcome to contact us if you would like to discuss this further.

Class Structure 2025
To align with the refresh of the New Zealand Curriculum and it’s structure, including a structured teaching approach to Literacy and Mathematics, things are going to look a bit different at RPS from the start of next year. To accommodate these new initiatives our Years 3-8 classes we will be moving to single year levels. This means that if your child is in Year 5 they will only have Year 5 tamariki in their class. This is quite different, as up until now your tamariki have mainly been in composite classes with two year levels (Year 3/4, Year 5/6, Year 7/8) and the same teacher for two years.
There will still be some composite classes based on the number of students at a particular year level. This is the approach being taken across a number of New Zealand schools to work with current government legislation.
If you have any questions relating to this change you are very welcome to make a time to come and discuss this with us.

Farewell Mrs Slaughter
Sadly on Friday we will be saying farewell to a further valued staff member Mrs Libby Slaughter, one of our Associate Principals. Mrs Slaughter has won a Foundation Principal’s position. She will have the privileged role of starting a new school from the ground up. She will be part of the design team for the buildings, and responsible for appointing staff and enrolling students. We congratulate her and wish her every success in this exciting opportunity.

ERO REPORT 2024
In Term 4 we received our Education Review Office (ERO)report. We are very proud of the feedback we have received and are excited to share this with you our RPS whānau.
The following is some of the feedback that resonates with the values we have as a learning community.
Maori learners attending over time achieve higher than all students, particularly in reading and writing.
Learners express a strong sense of belonging and pride in their school; they are confident in their identities, languages and cultures.
Leaders regularly gather relevant feedback from students, staff, parents and whānau and use this information appropriately to inform decision making and strategic planning.
Students experience calm and inclusive learning environments where mutual respect between learners and teachers supports high engagement and learning activities.
A strong schoolwide culture of care for learners contributes to positive relationships that support their wellbeing.
Parents and whānau, as key partners in their child’s learning, actively participate in the life of the school.
This is great feedback and highlights the commitment of both our staff and you our whānau to the education of our tamariki.
Congratulations RPS whānau.
This is a great way to wrap up a very successful 2024.

Message from our Principal
As the time draws near for us to farewell our graduates of 2024 I just want to say how proud we are of them. They have been great senior students whom we have thoroughly enjoyed working with. As they negotiate the years ahead we hope that they can look back on their primary year here at RPS with fond memories.
There has been much to celebrate over the year. Some of the stand-out events were our campaign to the AIMS GAMES in Tauranga, the Kids Sing competition and gala festival, the Rehu Tai Speech Competition and the National Chess Championship in Wellington
I would like to extend my appreciation to all our staff for the hard work, care and aroha they show and for putting your tamariki at the heart of our learning community.
To you, our whānau, thank you for trusting us with your most precious taonga, the education of your tamariki.
Have a relaxing, safe holiday break.
Meri kirihimete te whānau whanui o RPS
