AIMS 2024

Congratulations to our AIMS Teams on a very successful week. Our Yr 7-8 (Kahikitea Team) is  made up of 140 tamariki and we are competing against Intermediate Schools with up to 900 students to select teams from. We continue to punch well above our weight.

Thank you for the commitment and dedication of our coaches and managers who make this sporting experience happen for our tamariki.

   – Rugby 7’s finished 29/45

   – Futsal Boys 25/40

   – Futsal Girls 2/22

  – Netball 4/136

We are very proud of the effort all those involved have put in.

AIMS GAMES: BOYS & GIRLS FUTSAL

A huge congratulations to both our boys’ and girls’ futsal teams:
Boys finished: 25th out of 40 teams
Girls finished: 2nd (Silver Medal) out of 22 teams
Our boys’ team fought hard all week, pulling off some great wins. This has been an excellent experience for them, and no doubt, they’ll use this as motivation for 2025.
As for our girls, they were amazing! Against all odds, they have brought home the silver medal! For many of these girls, football isn’t even their primary sport, yet they faced schools with much larger population bases and still came out shining. This is a fantastic achievement that speaks to their resilience, determination, and heart.
A special thank you to our School Property Manager, Mr. Ratnesh Gosai, along with Mr. McNaught and Miss McColl, who took on the challenge of coaching this team of young women. In just 10 weeks, they molded these girls into a well-oiled machine, teaching not only the game but also tactics and discipline. Their patience, dedication, and teamwork have been invaluable to the team’s success, and we are so grateful for their leadership.
This achievement is a reminder that no matter the odds, with the right mindset, teamwork, and support, anything is possible. We are very proud of what both our teams have accomplished and excited for what the future holds! Bring on 2025!

AIMS GAMES: NETBALL

What an incredible journey, finishing with an outstanding 4th place! Another remarkable year for our small Year 7-8 area. We couldn’t be more proud of these girls. Even after a late setback, they dug deep and worked hard!
A huge thank you to our coaching team, dedicated manager, school staff and Board, Randwick Park Netball Club, Papakura Netball Centre, Auckland Netball Centre, The Ted Manson Foundation (for our school vans), Alfriston College (who leant us one of their vans) and all the parents/whānau who supported us, fundraised, fed us, and cheered us on from the sidelines and the live streams. This was a great community-backed team and together we made it possible!
Thank you all for being part of this unforgettable campaign!

AIMS GAMES: RUGBY SEVENS

Our RPS 7s team were amazing. They were up against some tough teams and they gave it their all  each and every game. They received the most comments from the referees about their positive game play and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. We are so proud of how these boys represented RPS both on and off the field, despite battling some illness and injuries these boys finished a respectable 29th. Strong tackles, speedy runs, tactical moves and sportsmanship a plenty. Well done boys!

NATIONAL MONITORING PROJECT TEAM

This week we have the National Monitoring Project Team onsite from Monday to Wednesday.

They are working with 27 randomly selected students from Years 3, 6 and 8 over the next three days. Whānau consent was gained for these tamariki.

This is a new study that continues the work of the National Monitoring Study of Student Achievement (2012-2022). It provides nationally representative data on student achievement using a sample-based approach.

The study will also:

  •       identify and monitor trends in educational performance
  •       explore impacts on student achievement
  •       provide dependable information to policy makers and curriculum specialists for planning
  •       give schools insights to help improve teaching and learning.

In addition to this, the study will explore student achievement

        at Years 3, 6 and 8
investigate the progress of year level cohort in literacy and numeracy
        is aligned to Te Mātaiaho.

In Term 4, there will be two online assessments in writing and numeracy for the selected students.

STUDENT WRITING PIECE: The Mysterious Key
written by Josiah Tafuna, Room 11

As the first rays of sunlight filtered through the trees, Jamies stumbled upon an old, rusted key lying in the middle of the forest path.” I wonder where that came from”, he said to himself. Buried under a pile of old leaves, it looked like it hadn’t been used in years. It’s metal surface covered in patches of orange rust. The key’s intricate design hinted at its age, perhaps it was once part of a cult.

DROPPING AND COLLECTING YOUR CHILDREN/TAMARIKI

When dropping your tamariki off in the morning please use our yellow coned drop-off area. This is for the safety of you and your tamariki. If you would like to walk your child/ren to class, please park on the road.

Our school gates are closed from 2 pm. Only parents/whānau who have a parking permit are permitted through the gates as we have limited parking spaces.

If you have any questions, please contact our school office on 09 2670112 or 0800 438777. Thank you for your ongoing support and cooperation in keeping our tamariki safe.

CYBERSAFETY – PROTECTING OUR TAMARIKI ONLINE

As parents/whānau, you do everything you can to keep your tamariki safe.

Being online is no different, but the strategies to keep our tamariki safe are.

Here is this week’s Cyber Safety tip to ensure the online safety of our tamariki.

Keep control of your family’s digital footprint

Every picture and personal detail that is posted and shared on social media and the internet contributes to someone’s digital footprint. The big risk with this is that once information is shared publicly, it can be used in ways you may not expect and cannot control. You should also assume that anything that is put online is permanent (it can sometimes be deleted but not always before others have seen it and saved it, or taken a screenshot of it). For this reason, children and young people need to be smart about protecting their images and information. The same goes for parents/whānau who regularly post pictures of their children online.

Teach your child to stay in control of their digital footprint, by only sharing with people who they know and trust. Rather than posting to all their friends on social media, please encourage them to be selective and use the privacy settings on the social media platforms they use.

Please visit their website for more information on SKIDS.
