KIDS SING CHOIR – PSAMONY

Congratulations, Psamony another Gold!
Last week our Randwick Park School choir, Psamony, shone brilliantly at the 2024 Kids Sing Choral Competition at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Parnell. Their stunning performance left the audience in awe. We were very proud that Psamony was awarded Gold for their outstanding performance and voted by the audience to receive the Audience Award.

We acknowledge our Choir Conductor, Rev. Ieremia Amituana’i Amani, who has worked with our tamariki training them to deliver an unforgettable sound. Alongside him was the very talented accompanist, Seumanu Simon Matãfai. These two have guided our choir for the past 7 years, leading us to a legacy of success. Mr Sala’a Lologa works tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure our choir is disciplined and immaculately presented.
Under their leadership, Psamony has consistently made our school and community proud with their achievements:
2017: Silver & Adjudicator’s Award
2019: Gold & Adjudicator’s Award
2023: Gold & Adjudicator’s Award
2024: Gold & Audience Award, Audjudicator’s Award, Lawson Award New Zealand Composition Award, and Volunteers Award.

Then….
Breaking News: Psamony Choir Dominates Kids Sing Choral Competition Special Awards Section
The day after our performance Mr Lologa received a phone call inviting members of the RPS choir Psamony, to the final night of the Kids Sing Choral Competition.
At the overall award presentation Psamony, not only captured the coveted Audience Choice Award. They also took home the Colleen Elliot Adjudicators Award for a successive year. For the first time, they were the recipient of the Lawson Award for best performance of a New Zealand Composition, as well as the Volunteers Award, selected by the volunteers who helped run this prestigious event. We are especially proud of this award because it highlighted our school values of respect, positive, and kindness!
There are five major awards in the Full Primary and Intermediate Section, and our Psamony Choir took home four of them! The choir’s outstanding success has set a new standard for excellence in the competition.
Finally special thanks to the New Zealand Choral Federation (NZCF) Auckland for organising this event and allowing our children to perform and shine alongside other Auckland school choirs.

Following the Kids Sing performance we received these lovely messages from anonymous audience members:

“Morena,

As a mum from a different school I just wanted to congratulate Psamony Choir for last night. Your incredible choir brought me to tears. The conductor had a sense of purpose, full of passion and belief. This fed down into every choir member who sang from the heart and soul. Their souls and voices rose to the Cathedral roof and beyond. Bravo Bravo Bravo!”

“Hi there,

I was an audience member in at the 2024 Kids Sing Choral Competition at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Parnell on Tuesday night and heard your Choir sing.

Just wanted to say how AMAZING they were.

They were the highlight of the evening.

A joy to listen to.”

EARTH DAY
Thank you to all students, staff, and whānau that supported our Earth Day last Thursday. We raised $610.00 which will go towards more raised garden beds.

YEAR 5-8 MATHEX

It’s been a busy few weeks here at RPS, we have seen our Year 7/8 Mathex teams compete at the Auckland Mathex competition, and our Year 5/6 teams competing in our own interschool Mathex Competition against some of our local school teams. As always we showed skill, strategy and teamwork! Well done to our year 7 team who finished in the top 40 of 126 teams and one of our Year 5/6 teams who came 1st in their competition. Well done Mathematicians! Maths is strong at RPS!

CENTRAL COUNTIES BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

Earlier this term our Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball teams competed at the Central Counties tournament at Bruce Pulman Park. Both teams played brilliantly during the day, placing second in their divisions. Thank you to Mr McNaught and Moses for your coaching and Miss Lita for helping out on the day. Both teams have qualified for the Counties Zone finals next term.

VISION BUS

At the beginning of this term we had the University of Auckland Optometry Clinic visit our new tamariki and have their sight tested.

Yesterday 24 of our students received brand new glasses. Both testing and glasses were fully funded.

Thank you to the University of Auckland Optometry Clinic for giving this opportunity to our students and whānau.

CYBERSAFETY – PROTECTING OUR TAMARIKI ONLINE

As parents/whānau, you do everything you can to keep your tamariki safe.

Being online is no different, but the strategies to keep our tamariki safe are.

Here is this week’s Cyber Safety tip to ensure the online safety of our tamaiki.

Be ‘share aware’ to protect your privacy

If your child is a regular user of social networks, they need to be made aware of the risk of personal information or images being made public once they post it. While they won’t fully understand the consequences of revealing personal information online, teach them to be cautious and thoughtful about what they post and share.  Encourage your tamaiti to ask themselves before posting anything if the information (i.e. name, phone number, home address, email, name of school) or photo is something they would give a stranger. If the answer is no, don’t post it.

If your child is sharing photos or posts online ask your child to let you see what they are sharing first.

Make sure that your child understands that it is illegal to post photos or videos of other people without permission and that any form of being mean or writing mean comments about others is online bullying and is breaking the law. The Digital Communication Act developed in 2015 now does not allow for any form of online bullying as it shows “An intent to harm” others which is unacceptable.
