MID-YEAR OVERALL TEACHER JUDGEMENT (OTJ)
At the beginning of the year, we set achievement targets based on our 2023 end-of-year achievement.
The following are the targets for 2024 in Reading Writing and Mathematics
- By the end of the year to have 70% or more of all students working At or Above the expectation in Reading.
- By the end of the year to have 70% or more of all students working At or Above the expectation in Writing.
- By the end of the year to have 75% or more of all students working At or Above the expectation for Mathematics.
At the middle of the year, we looked at our targets to see if we were on track to meet our end-of-year goals.
The following are our mid-year teacher judgements. For students not yet achieving we monitor their progress to see if the support programmes we have in place are having an impact on their learning.

CYBERSAFETY – PROTECTING OUR TAMARIKI ONLINE
As parents/whānau, you do everything you can to keep your tamariki safe.
Being online is no different, but the strategies to keep our tamariki safe are. How can we protect them from online bullies and from seeing inappropriate content online?
Here is this week’s Cyber Safety tip to ensure the online safety of our tamaiki.
Know who your children’s online friends are
As adults, we know that some people online aren’t who they say they are, but children and young people can be naïve about who they are chatting with especially if they are not taught to be cyber-wise from an early age.
Make sure you become friends and contacts within your child’s social media circles and ensure you monitor posts. Your children/tamaiti may resist but tell them that is one of the conditions for you to allow them access.
Discuss with your tamariki that whatever they do, say or respond to online, must be the same as if they were in real life. Teach them that if they wouldn’t say it to someone in person then they should not be writing it online.

KEEPING OURSELVES SAFE 2024
During this week (2nd to the 6th of September) RPS is doing a Keeping Ourselves Safe unit. Teachers/kaiako and the School Community Officer will teach in class sessions.
Our junior classes (Year 1 to 4) topics will include My Body Is My Own, Unwanted Touch and Behaviour, and How To Say “No” Confidently then move away and report what has happened.
The Year 5 and 6 tamaiti will identify potentially unsafe situations in both the real world and the digital environment. What abuse is, including that it is wrong and should be reported, it is not their fault.
Our Year 7 and 8 student’s focus is on choosing appropriate options to keep themselves safe. Their main topic is ‘No Excuses for Abuse’ and includes why it is important to report abuse – who and how to tell.
If you have any questions or aspect of this you would like to discuss you are very welcome to contact me via our school office or talk to your child’s classroom teacher.
