On Friday 17 May tamariki can wear a pink shirt to school to show their support for bullying prevention.
Definition of bullying?
Bullying is a deliberate act that involves a power imbalance, has an element of repetition and is harmful. It can be physical, verbal or social, including both the physical and/or digital environment.
Is bullying harmful? Why prevent bullying?

Many studies show that rangatahi who are bullied are more likely to experience mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts.

This can impact on their learning, relationships and ability to feel good about who they are.

Bullying harms the person being bullied, the person doing the bullying and can also harm those who witness it (bystanders).

Rangatahi who bully others, or are bullied (or both), are more likely to skip classes, drop out of school, and perform worse academically than schoolmates who have no conflict with their peers (OECD, 2017).

By taking bullying seriously and celebrating the diversity of tauira/students, all rangatahi can feel safe and supported, and flourish at your school!

RELATIONSHIP AND SEXUALITY EDUCATION
From the 27th May, tamariki will be learning about Relationships and Sexuality Education.
Our junior classes (Year 1-4) will focus on the names of body parts and how to take care of their bodies.
The Year 5/6 tamaiti will be learning about Relationships and Sexuality Education with a focus on pubertal changes.
Our 7/8 student focus is on respectful relationships, pubertal change, and discrimination. The Village Collective, an organisation for Young Pasifika Peoples will take some sessions.
We will have a Whānau information hui/evening outlining the programmes in more detail in the Staffroom on Thursday, 16th May from 5.30 pm to 6.00 pm. This is a chance for you to ask any questions you may have.
We look forward to seeing as many as we can.

WELCOME TO RPS
This week we have opened Room 4 for our Year 1 tamariki and Miss Floriane Gonot is their teacher.
 In Room 20 we welcome Mrs Emma Smith. Mrs Smith is an experienced teacher who has previously worked in other schools in Auckland.
We also have 4 AUT trainee teachers working in our school over the next three weeks in Rooms 5, 16, 10 and 31.

CHANGE OF CLOTHING FOR OUR JUNIOR TAMARIKI
If your child is in Year 0-4, please pack them a change of clothing. This is incase of accidents which can occur at their age.

SCHOOL UNIFORM
As the weather gets cooler we ask that students start wearing our winter uniform. It consists of our school pants, polo fleece, socks or stockings and school shoes (School shoes -black, white, or navy blue, or sports shoes (black, white, or navy blue).
If your child is wearing a piece of jewellery as part of their culture, please advise either their class teacher or our school office. Jewellery, nail polish, and jandals do not form part of our RPS uniform.

SCHOOL HOURS
School starts at 8:40 am & finishes at 2:45 pm. If tamariki arrive after 8:40 am they are late and need to sign in at the back of our office with Miss Dot.
All students are to be off-site/off-school grounds by 3 pm unless they are attending training for a sport.
This is for safety reasons as we do not have supervision in case of an emergency, injury or incident.
